'Making Life Sound Beautiful'
As a musician, you can't and shouldn't be fixed in you thinking. Performing, teaching, studying, composing, conducting requires you to unlock the creativity that lies within, and you therefore have to unleash yourself from just the notes on the page! In this week's 'Talking Flutes Extra' podcast, Jean-Paul is talking via Skype with Russian born flute player, composer, arranger and conductor Ivan Alekhin about his life in Russia and his studies in England at the Royal Academy of Music in London and also at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Now living in Washington D.C, Ivan speaks about the need to not only practice and study the flute, but also how you should read more literature to gain a deeper insight into life in general.
From baroque to uptown funk! - four days at the NFA'18 in Orlando, the World's biggest flute convention
A longer than usual podcast giving a brief overview through my own eyes (Jean-Paul Wright) of four days spent at the worlds largest flute convention, the National Flute Association of America, this year held in Orlando. A huge shout out to every flute player I met, tested flutes with and more importantly, laughed with. The thing about the NFA is that you get the world's best flute players performing and mixing with everybody and the 'vibe' is very laidback and super friendly. Everybody has time for you. So the bottom line is put it on your 'Bucket List' of things to do. 2019 Convention is in Salt Lake City and 2020 in Dallas.
As a musician you have to be true to yourself - An interview with the 2018 NFA Jazz artist winner Elsa Nilsson

For more information on the improvising flutist that is Elsa then visit www.elsanilssonmusic.com where you can find more details and pre-order her stunning new 'After Us' album.
Smile, play and dance, flute playing has to be enjoyable doesn't it?

On Talking Flutes Extra this week, Jean-Paul talks once again to Dr José Valentino, the creator and driver of the original and very successful 'Dance Your Flute Off' at the National Flute Association Convention held in Minneapolis in 2017 with his "Brother from another mother" the fabulous Giovanni Perez.
